Coverage Mission

FireShield Wildfire News exists to provide accurate, timely, and actionable information about wildfires and related emergencies in Los Angeles and Southern California. Our coverage mission is public safety: we prioritize getting accurate information to the people who need it as quickly as possible, without sensationalizing or creating unnecessary alarm.

Source Standards

FireShield Wildfire News only publishes information that can be verified against official government and agency data sources. We do not publish unverified social media reports, unconfirmed secondhand accounts, or speculative information about fire behavior, containment, or cause.

Our primary authoritative sources include:

  • National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) — the authoritative source for U.S. wildfire incident data
  • CAL FIRE — California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection official incident reports
  • Los Angeles County Fire Department — incident and evacuation data
  • Los Angeles County Emergency Management — evacuation warnings and orders
  • South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) — air quality data
  • AirNow / EPA — national air quality index data
  • National Weather Service Los Angeles — fire weather forecasts

Automated Content

A large share of our wildfire coverage is generated automatically from third-party fire-agency data feeds and is published without individual human review. Automated articles are produced and updated by software on an “as is” basis. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or out of date, and we do not warrant their accuracy. Such articles are clearly labeled with an “Automated Content” notice. For full details and important disclaimers, see our AI & Automation Disclosure.

Breaking News Standards

For breaking wildfire news, we publish confirmed information as quickly as possible, clearly labeling articles as “Breaking” when a situation is still developing. We update breaking articles as new official information becomes available and clearly timestamp all updates.

We do not publish estimated casualty figures, structural damage estimates, or cause-of-fire information until confirmed by official sources. We note explicitly when information is preliminary and subject to change.

Independence

FireShield Wildfire News is a publication of FireShield Wildfire Defense Systems. While we are editorially connected to a commercial company, our news coverage is governed by these editorial standards. Our news coverage decisions are made based on public interest and newsworthiness, not commercial considerations. Sponsored content, if any, will be clearly labeled.
